In line with presidential directive and the nation's determination to host a hitch-free and peaceful World Economic Forum on Africa (WEFA) which takes place between May 7 and 9, the Inspector-General of Police (IG) Mohammed Abubakar has ordered a massive security cordon around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs.

In a detailed operational order released yesterday at the Force Headquarters Abuja, and signed by the Force Spokesperson, Frank Mba, the IG ordered the immediate deployment of men and relevant security equipment to Abuja and the satellite towns around it so as to ensure a safe, secure and conducive atmosphere before, during and after the conference.

The police boss directed police field commanders to step up tight security measures in all strategic locations and vulnerable points and further strengthen security at entry and exit points of FCT, airports and highways as well as city roads, hotels and the conference venue.

Calling on the cooperation of all towards this important event, Abubakar assured the conference participants, the citizenry as well as members of the international community of adequate security, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies have already put in place effective security measures for their safety and comfort.

The IG further charged the citizens to show understanding and continue to cooperate with the police and all security agencies in the ongoing special security operations.
