Adamawa state Governor Impeached.

Embattled Governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako has finally been ousted by the state assembly, Tuesday, while his deputy resigned minutes before Nyako was impeached.

Eighteen out of the 25 members of the Assembly adopted the report of the probe panel, after Speaker Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri read the report on the floor of the House.

The report which was endorsed by all members of the panel found the governor guilty of all 16 allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him by the State House of Assembly.

According to reports from News Diary Online, the motion for the governor’s impeachment was moved by member representing Gombi constituency, Mr Jerry Kumdisi.It was seconded by Kwamoti Laori, the deputy speaker of the Assembly and member, representing Numan constituency.

All the 18 members present at the meeting signed the resolution removing the governor.
The House also passed a motion that Speaker Fintiri should be sworn in as the state’s acting governor.

Mr. Ngilari’s resignation letter was read at plenary by the speaker of the Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, after which the lawmakers approved it.

Reacting to the development, Gov Murtala Nyako through his Director Press and Public Affairs, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, said (they) accepted the development in good faith but would go to court to set the record straight for posterity.

There were indications last night that the impeached governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, might be arrested by security agents and charged to court for alleged treason.

While the treason charges against the former governor is billed to take off in one court, the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, would be prosecuting Nyako in another court for allegedly looting funds of the state said to have been stashed in a local bank.

The governor and the North-East Region manager of the said bank will be charged with another top official of Adamawa State Government, who is being held by the anti-graft agency for aiding and abetting the looting.
