New York like Lagos - The EBOLA fear runs fear as Man slumps in NY City
(1/1)
flukky01:
A man in New York is being tested for Ebola after falling ill following a trip to a west African country where the disease has been reported.
The man has a high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms at the city's Mount Sinai Hospital on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
He is being treated in strict isolation and was screened to determine the cause of his symptoms according to WABC.
The hospital said in a statement: All necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of all patients, visitors and staff.
"We will continue to work closely with federal, state and city health officials to address and monitor this case, keep the community informed and provide the best quality care to all of our patients."
Tonight the world bank announced emergency funding of up to $200million (£120million) for Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to help cope with the crisis.

flukky01:
As city officials announced Tuesday that a hospitalized man is likely not an Ebola victim, a second infected American aid worker flew home from Africa for an experimental treatment.
City Health Commissioner Mary Bassett said officials can’t completely rule out Ebola until the patient’s test results return from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But Bassett said Tuesday it was “highly unlikely" that the man, who was brought to Mount Sinai Medical Center with a high fever on Monday, has Ebola — though the city is poised to respond to any positive tests for the virus.
“What we learned from this is that people who are potentially infected with Ebola are rapidly identified, action is taken rapidly to ensure that they’re isolated, and that the public’s health is protected,” said Bassett.
The man, whose name has not been released, had recently been in West Africa, where an Ebola contagion has claimed close to 900 lives.
