Fayose to Probe Fayemi - "Where is Ekiti's N86 billion?"

THE Ekiti State Government Tuesday said it had uncovered more facts about the alleged financial "recklessness" of the immediate past administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi which reportedly left  the state with a debt profile of N86b.

It, however vowed that "those who defrauded this state will be made to refund every kobo that they stole".

Though the media aide to the immediate past governor, Yinka Oyebode had put the figure at N36b and noted that the Federal Government was indebted to the state to the tune of over N17 billion, the state government has stuck to the  N86 billion figure.

Governor  Ayodele Fayose had through his Special Assistant  on Public Communication and New Media, Mr Lere Olayinka,  accused  Fayemi of incurring N86 billion  debt  contrary to N84 billion earlier declared. He said that part of the new discovery which aggregated to the sum included the N5 billion Fayemi took from Ecobank  barely two weeks to the June 21 election, without recourse to  the Debt Management Office (DMO) for approval.

He puts the figures as thus: "Bank loans,  N15,831,613,425.62; Bond N26,749,796,784.75,Outstanding Warrants- N15, 522,552,900.76, Outstanding to Road Contractors- N21, 286,126,749; Outstanding Remittances to FG-  N709, 883,656.75; Outstanding Remittances (State Govt) - N592, 995,374.89, EKSG Public Servants Outstanding; Emoluments- N5, 137,888,224.37; TOTAL - N86, 013,689,097".
