Doctors issue 21-day ultimatum to LASG over unpaid salaries
« on: January 06, 2015, 04:53:59 PM »
There is looming crisis in the Lagos State health sector as doctors in the state-owned hospitals have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state government over non-payment of their alleged four months outstanding salaries.

The doctors who threatened to withdraw their services from the hospitals, plan to embark on full fledged strike action if the state government fails to attend to their demand.

The letter which convened the notice of the ultimatum to Governor Babatunde Fashola, was dated December 30, 2014.

The doctors had in the letter requested for immediate payment of April and May 2012 salaries, as well as August and September 2014 salaries that the state government allegedly refused to pay.

But the government insisted that it is not owing the doctors, saying the arrears in question were for the period the doctors had embarked on industrial action called by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
