Victory for Samsung as judge allows firm to sell tablet in U.S

Samsung has won a notable victory against Apple after a judge ruled that the company could sell its Galaxy Tab computer in the U.S. despite losing a patent case against the world's biggest company.

The judgment allows Samsung to sell its flagship tablet during the crucial shopping period in the run-up to Christmas.

The South Korean firm has hoped to take on the iPad, by far the most popular tablet, but has been hobbled by a series of legal challenges launched by Apple.

'We are pleased with the court's action today, which vindicates our position that there was no infringement of Apple's design patent and that an injunction was not called for,' Samsung said in a statement following the ruling in a California court on Monday.

The company has filed a motion against Apple saying the iPhone 5 infringes on some of its patents.
