President Jonathan affirms that Ondo elections will be free, fair & Transparent

President Jonathan, yesterday, re-stated the commitment of the Federal Government to conducting free and fair elections in the country.

The President, who spoke at the Democracy Square, Akure, Ondo State capital, where he led other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders on campaign for the party’s candidate, Chief Olusola Oke, said free polls would consolidate Nigeria’s democracy and earn it respect among the comity of nations.

He, however, warned political parties planning to engage thugs for election-rigging purposes in the Ondo State governorship election (scheduled for Saturday) to have a rethink, as they would be met with the stoutest resistance from government.

Jonathan said his administration was determined to keep its promises of ensuring that the process of enthroning political leaders in the country is credible.

He said: “I learnt some people are planning to bring thugs to Ondo State for this election. Let me tell them that the Federal Government will not allow them to come out that day. If you have a child who is a thug, take him out of Ondo State, because the government will not allow anybody to dent the image of this country.” - Guardian
