Brave Eagles hold star-studded Catalunya

TRUE to their pre-match boast, the Super Eagles of Nigeria matched their star-studded Catalan opponent strength for strength in Wednesday’s international friendly played in Catalonia, Spain.

The match, which ended 1-1 saw the Nigerian team with mainly home-based players in the first half, holding their own against the homers, who paraded top Barcelona FC stars as Victor Valdes, Xavi Hernandez, Carlos Puyol, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Martin Montoya, Sergio Roberto, Christian Tello and Marc Bartra.

The Nigerians conceded an early goal through a penalty in the third minute, but equalized in the 54th minutes through Portland Timbers player, Bright Dike.

The Catalan giants also paraded seven professionals from Espanyol in yesterday’s game against the Eagles.
