Chelsea win @ Stamford Bridge as Tottenham hold Man Utd to a 1-1 draw

Chelsea dented Arsenal’s top-four hopes with a 2-1 victory in a topsy-turvy Barclays Premier League match in snowy conditions at Stamford Bridge.

In a dominant first half Chelsea led 2-0 thanks to goals from Juan Mata and a Frank Lampard penalty but Arsenal fought back after the break and halved the deficit through Theo Walcott’s goal. Chelsea dominated the opening period but a minute after Olivier Giroud had missed a chance to put Arsenal in front, shooting wide after being released by Theo Walcott, Mata punished the miss. Played clear by Cesar Azpilicueta's crossfield pass from the right, the Spain midfielder controlled the ball well before lashing it left-footed into the roof of the net.

An injury-time goal by Clint Dempsey thwarted Manchester United’s hopes of maintaining their seven-point lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League. United were a minute away from winning through Robin van Persie’s first-half header in the snow at White Hart Lane when the United States forward was found in the area by Aaron Lennon in the 93rd minute and he slotted home. That meant United’s lead over Manchester City at the top of the table before the weekend was cut to five points.
