NAFDAC wants life imprisonment for hard drug traffickers

Dr Paul Orhii, the Director-General of National Agency for Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), on Wednesday advocated life imprisonment to stop peddling of hard drugs in the country.

He also canvassed for permanent seizure of property belonging to persons caught in connection with illicit drug trafficking as the most viable panacea to controlling drug business in the country.

Orhii, who made the call during a one-day visit to Ekiti, said that only stringent measures could rid the country of illicit drugs.
According to him, the way and manner respective authorities, such as the courts, have been continually lenient with persons found guilty of involvement in drug trafficking will not deter the crime.

He said the business of drug pushing would continue in the country until Nigeria emulated the hard posture of advanced countries like China and India where death and life imprisonment was slammed on suspects.

The director-general decried the growing cases of illegal drug business in the country. http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/nafdac-advocates-life-imprisonment-hard-drug-peddlers
