Ex Gov. Ayo Fayose declares for 2014 governorship election under PDP in Ekiti

FORMER Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, yesterday officially declared his intention to contest the 2014 governorship election under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The event, which held at the party Secretariat in Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti, capital of the state, attracted supporters from all the 177 wards and 16 council areas in the state. The former governor submitted what he described as a letter of intent to the party chairman, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, saying “ this is to notify you of my intention to contest for the gubernatorial primary of our great party with the intention of becoming the gubernatorial candidate and subsequently win the 2014 Governorship election in Ekiti State.”

Party stalwarts in attendance at the event included Fayose’s wife, Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose, his former deputy, Abiodun Aluko, PDP Chairman in Ogun State, Engr Dayo Bayo, PDP Chairman in Lagos, Capt Tunji Shelle and Zonal Youth Leader, Bolaji Jeje. Others are women leader, Ogun State, Barr Lawumi Ayuba and PDP Board of Trustees member, Senator Clement Awoyelu. In his speech, Fayose pledged to reabsorb council workers who were disengaged by the current administration for sundry reasons if elected in the 2014 governorship election.

Meanwhile, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has declared that the former governor is “undertaking a journey of self-delusion”, saying his antecedents of ‘gangsterism cannot be repeated in Ekiti state again.’ According to ACN Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tunde Adeleke, the “party could not be intimidated by the ranting of a former governor impeached for his wanton excesses, adding that “Fayose has started displaying his accustomed folly by promising the impossible, saying he would reabsorb council workers sacked for legitimate reasons, including forging of certificates, lack of requisite qualifications and understating their ages. “How can a sensible individual say he would discard all these reasons and reabsorb those that were judiciously sacked? His boasts has not just started. It started long ago. But all the boasts and those of all preparing to contest under the party cannot sway the ACN one bit. ACN remains focused. “The drive towards reversing the decadence wrought by the Fayoses during their ineffectual reign in Ekiti will continue until 2014 when PDP will be routed again in a landslide election which will bring Fayemi in again for another four-year term. -NationOnline
