Man (Alleged Hacker) remanded in Kirikiri over $4000 Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), on Tuesday, arraigned a 30-year-old hacker, Benjamin Otuorimo, over allegations of  stealing $4,000 belonging to Kemud International Company Ltd.

Otuorimo was arraigned on a one-count charge of fraud by the anti-graft agency before Justice Olabisi Akinlade of a Lagos High Court in Ikeja.

Counsel for EFCC, Gbolahan Latona, informed the court that Otuorimo had, on September 12, 2012,  with the intent to defraud, obtained the said sum from Kemud International Company Ltd.

According to him, the defendant had hacked into the account of Kemud  International Company Ltd and on finding out that Kemud was owing Intech Process Automation Nigeria Company  Ltd the sum of  $4,000 and 16.25 cents, he had committed an offence of impersonation.

Latona alleged that Otuorimo had impersonated as a representative of Intech Process Automation Company and asked the company to pay in to an account number 2015862776, belonging to one Audu Mohammed.

Latona further alleged that the defendant induced the company to pay the amount into the account of one Audu Mohammed in FirstBank Plc at Sabo, Yaba Area of Lagos.

The anti-graft agency said that the offence committed was contrary the law and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and other related fraud offences Act of 2006.

The defendant  pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him by the EFCC.

However, Justice Akinlade ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum prison pending the filing and hearing of his bail application.

She consequently adjourned the matter till June 10 for trial. Tribune
