The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 4, Mike Zuokomor, has said he would not spear any police officer who indulges in drugs, alcohol and acts of indolence.

The police boss made this pronouncement at a public lecture held at the Plateau Police Command Headquarters in Jos on Wednesday.

“Police officers should not be known as drunken, drug addicts and chain smokers,” he said.

The AIG spoke on the importance of intelligence gathering for police officers particularly those in Plateau State, to enable them surmount criminal activities. He urged the police officers to be extra valiant in performing their duties.

“You must stay alive to protect lives and property of the public, therefore, you must protect your selves, from harm, but if you sense danger anywhere, don’t run away, re-enforce and deal with the situation as it demand,” he said.

Mr. Zukomor also directed police officers who have houses in the barracks, but decided to live among civilians, to return. He said they were safer in the barracks.

He lamented that police officers who are living in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital and other insecurity prone states, were being hunted and killed by suspected terrorists.

The police boss urged police officers not to compromise the ethics of the profession, no matter the condition they may find themselves.

On the welfare of the police, he said the present Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, was working toward the increasing the salaries of police so that the officers can perform legitimate duties.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe, assured the AIG of his commitment in ensuring that the right things are done.
