MTN introduces Cloud Services in Ghana, Nigeria is Next

The mobile phone operator launched the service on Wednesday ahead of six countries the parent company, MTN Group, had selected to pioneer the service in Africa. 



The other five countries are Cameroon, Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Uganda and South Africa. 



MTN is the first mobile network operator in Africa to launch the Cloud Services Brokerage model. 





Cloud Services, a recent innovation, is the use of computing resources (hardware and software) that are delivered as a service over a network.



End users access cloud-based applications through a web browser or a light-weight desktop or mobile application while the business software and user's data are stored on servers at a remote location.





Proponents claim that cloud computing allows companies to avoid upfront infrastructure costs, and focus on projects that differentiate their businesses instead of infrastructure.





MTN Ghana will manage the infrastructure and platforms that run applications for businesses and clients.



"This is very important milestone in the life of MTN business, which was launched in 2011 to provide ICT solutions to small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and large corporates in Ghana.
