Collapsed Building in Berger, Lagos kills 4 and leaves 3 injured

A three-storey building collapsed on Tuesday trapping no fewer than four people, doing construction work.

The building which was located at No 15, Bashiru Street, Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State houses a pentecostal church. It was gathered that the building collapsed without giving any sign of an imminent danger at about 3:15p.m. on Tuesday.

When Nigerian Tribune visited the scene of the collapse in Lagos, rescue operations were being carried out by officers of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), among others.

A 15-year old boy, who wouldn’t disclose his name, claimed to be among five people working in the ill-fated building. He disclosed to Nigerian Tribune that he had escaped unhurt because he had been sent on an errand by his brother who was among those working in the building when it collapsed.

“We were all working in the building when I was asked to buy some loaves of bread. I came back to meet this calamity. My brother, Joshua, and three others were all in the building. I am sure they must have died by now,” the boy disclosed while weeping uncontrollably.

However, the general manager of LASEMA, Mr Femi Osanyitolu, in his remarks said his agency had swung into action immediately it got wind of the incident while adding that by so doing four people were rescued and now receiving treatment at the general hospital.

Meanwhile, a four storey building under construction located at Zone 8 area of Lokoja in Kogi State collapsed on Tuesday has, with three persons sustaining serious degrees of injuries.
