Two former Governors of Oyo State, High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja and Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala have decided to join forces ahead of the 2015 polls in a bid to dislodge the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) from the Agodi Government House.
To many, the Ladoja-Akala alliance is a confirmation of the fact that “in politics, there are no permanent enemies.” Akala was Ladoja’s running mate in the 2003 elections and was sworn-in as Ladoja’s deputy on May 29, 2003. Their relationship however went frosty after an attack on the Governor’s office on December 22, 2005. The then Deputy Governor was not seen thereafter until his boss was impeached 20 days later. The gulf between them widened as Akala was sworn-in as Governor.

Senator Ladoja who obviously felt betrayed once likened his Deputy’s act to that of the biblical “Judas”. Ladoja however got redress as the courts re-instated him after 11 months. Akala later succeeded him as the Governor in 2007 having been preferred by the Peoples Democratic Party. Senator Ladoja later formed the Accord Party, some months to the 2011 elections.

The two former Governors have held secret fence-mending meetings and have decided to tackle the incumbent Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi who has been endorsed for re-election by his party. The Committee is to summit its report in 30 days. The two former Governors promised to express approval within a week after the submission of the Committee’s Report.

While speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Otunba Alao-Akala denied that he has left the PDP because of the alliance with the Ladoja-led Accord Party. - streetjournal
