Traffic along the ever-busy Bauchi/Jos highway was halted for hours, yesterday, following a motor accident that killed 30 cows while two persons sustained injuries in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the accident which took place in the early hours of the day, involved a truck conveying cows to Bauchi State and another articulated vehicle going out of the state capital.

He said the accident happened when the driver of the truck from Bauchi attempted to overtake another vehicle and in the process, collided with the trailer.

Confirming the incident, state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Henry Olatunji, said the accident occurred when the truck and the trailer collided as a result of wrong overtaking.

He said: “The trailer which was conveying about 50 cows to Bauchi in Toro Local Government Area collided with another truck. The situation led to an obstruction of traffic along the highway which made many motorists to be stranded for hours.

“About 30 cows were instantly killed as result of the accident while two people sustained injuries, but the driver of the truck escaped.”

The sector commander who disclosed that the he notified the police in the local government about the incident, said that joint operation of FRSC officers, the police and the military restored normalcy to the highway.
