There were a couple of goals from Nigerian players in action for their clubs in Europe on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, 2020.

In this review, we look at the performances of Nigerian players who are in Europe.

In England

Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring for Leicester City who beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at home. That was Iheanacho’s fifth league goal this season, his best return since he joined Leicester City.

His compatriot and teammate Wilfred Ndidi played all 90 minutes of the encounter.

Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo played some minutes for Manchester United who thrashed Bournemouth 5-2 at home in a league game. Ighalo came on in the 80th minute and missed a good chance to score what would have been his first Premier League goal for Manchester United.

Championship

Going a division lower, Nigerian defender Leon Balogun played only seven minutes for Wigan before he was taken off due to an injury. Wigan lost 3-0 away at Brentford.

In Italy

Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina could not help his Torino side who lost 4-1 away at Juventus in the Serie A. Aina played for 84 minutes before he was taken off.

Serie B

Nigerian striker Simy Nwankwo netted a hat trick to help Crotone to a 3-0 win at home to Benevento. Simy showed his different abilities with the goals, the first with a header, the second with a chip after beating a defender one-on-one and winning a physical battle and the third with a tap in from a cross. The 28-year-old now has 16 league goals, the most by any Nigerian player this season.

Nigerian midfielder Mikel Agu was good again for Vitoria SC who got a 1-0 away win at Portimonense. Agu played the whole minutes of the Primeira Liga game.
