Police ’ll unmask killer of PDP member – CP

Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Dorothy Gimba, has vowed that the command will unmask the killers of a Peoples Democratic Party member, Kunle Olagoke, who was shot dead during a ward meeting in Edunabon community.

Gimba, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, explained that one of the suspects in the murder of Olagoke had been arrested.

She said, “We have arrested one suspect, who is assisting the police. Others are still at large. We are on their trail.”

The statement of the Police boss came on the heels of the insinuation that the suspects in the murder had threatened to disrupt law and order in the community a day before the murder.

A source within Osun PDP, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that there had been no love lost between two factions of the party, who were locked in supremacy battle.

The source said, “They threatened fire and brimstone a day before the incident. They didn’t want the meeting to hold. On the day of the murder, they (suspects) gave a reassurance that they will not foment trouble.

“But they still struck despite the assurance that they won’t cause trouble.”

Some of the hoodlums, who stormed the meeting, reportedly wore masks even as some of them went after the book containing the minute of the meeting.

Olagoke was shot dead during the attack, which sent panic wave through Edunabon community in Ife-North Local Government Council.

A source told our correspondent, on Sunday that many PDP members in Edunabon had fled their homes for fear of reprisal.

“Some of those suspected to be behind the killing have fled. The police have arrested some people. The corpse of Kunle Olagoke is still in the mortuary,” a party source said.
