Court in France charges Taiye Taiwo with tax evasion

A Court in France has charged Taiye Taiwo with tax evasion.

The Nigeria international who played for Olympique Marseille in Ligue 1, is accused of not paying his income tax in 2008 and 2009, as well as his property tax in 2011, all of which amounts to €1,025,000.


The fiscal authorities have seized Taiwo’s €600,000 mansion in Marseille, which they say will be auctioned off for just €200,000. The trial was conducted in Taiwo’s absence and neither the player nor a lawyer was present. The tax ofice has however stated that Taiwo can apply through his lawyer for installment or delayed payment, if he does not have money to pay it off now.

The left-back recently signed for Turkish side Bursaspor from AC Milan.
