The Ekiti State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps was on Thursday thrown into mourning as a driver knocked down and killed an official of the corps, Taiwo Adesuyi, who was on his way to the office.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened at Okeila Roundabout at 10am.

Adesuyi, who was an inspector at the Omuo Ekiti unit of the NSCDC, was on a commercial motorcycle when the driver, who was said to be on top speed, hit the bike conveying him from behind.

The official was said to have died on the spot, while the commercial motorcyclist sustained injuries.

The deceased was on his way to the state headquarters to attend a sentisisation programme but he met his untimely death less than one kilometer away from the office.

Residents of the area, however, arrested the driver and handed him over to the police.

The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in the state, Mr. Tolu Afolabi, confirmed the death of Adesuyi who he said was married with kids. He stated that the command had notified the family.
