Man arrested for attempting to kill his father with a kitchen knife

Oyeniyi Anthony, aged 27, has been arraigned before the Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly attempting to kill Anthony Oyeniji, his father, with a kitchen knife.

The police said the accused broke into the room of the complainant at Oyeniji Street in Akowonjo area of Lagos, around 11pm, wielding a knife.

However, Anthony, who was said to have a licensed gun, was able to disarm his aggressor by shooting him in the hand.

The police were later called and Anthony was arrested.

The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Oyeniyi Anthony, ‘m’, on the 18th day of June, 2013, at about 11pm at Oyeniji Street, Akowonjo, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District with intent to intimidate, did threaten to kill one Anthony Oyeniji, with a kitchen knife.”

The prosecutor, Cpl. Onaiwu Iyobosa said the offence was punishable under Section 56(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State Nigeria, 2011.

The defendant however said he was not guilty of the charges.

The magistrate, Mr. F.J Adefioye admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till July 31 for trial.
