Man, 38, Jailed For Raping Teenager

A Jalingo Upper Area Court has sentenced a 38-year-old fruits seller, Ibrahim Aminu, to three years imprisonment with hard labour for raping a 13-year-old girl.

According to the First Information Report, the convict used N110 to entice the girl (names withheld) in his residence in Jalingo, contrary to Section 283 of the penal code.

When the case came up for mention on July 13, 2013, the convict pleaded guilty to the charge and pleaded for leniency, saying that he was a first offender.

The police persecutor, Corporal Joe Solomon prayed the court to try the offender summarily since he has admitted the crime.

Delivering judgment yesterday, the judge, Dauda Buba, said the issue of rape was a very serious offence that needs to be handled with every sense of seriousness and therefore sentenced the offender to three years imprisonments with hard labour.

The judge also asked the convict to pay N3,000 fine for committing a crime against humanity.
