Kano Shuts Down 68 Private Schools

The Kano state Task Force on private schools has suspended 50 private schools until they appear before the committee for clearance, while 18 were shut down indefinitely In a press conference held at Gidan Murtala, Kano, the chairman of the Task Force Committee on Private Schools, Alhaji Baba Abubakar Umar explained that the measure was taken following the violation of the state private institutions 91 education law 203 which requires them to pay 10 percent termly fees as their civic responsibility for the development of the state.

Other violations, he added are non refund of task force guidelines forms for a technically long time, some schools run academic programmes in dilapidated structures and untidy environment, and above all, the ratio of NCE and degree bearing teachers fall short of any standard.

Baba said; “Unfortunately it appears that 80 percent of private institutions in the state are not interested in abiding by the law that approved for their establishments.
