Topic: 2013/14 chelsea's Defensive Midfield - Its Van Ginkel over Mikel Obi  (Read 3061 times)

Have you noticed that Chelsea have been much more dangerous on the attack in pre season? The reason we are much more dangerous is Van Ginkel, he not only covers up the gaps left by attacking midfielders but he creates gaps in the opposition’s defence when making runs foward. He lures defenders and midfielders towards him therefore giving players like Oscar more time and space.

Have you ever noticed we are less dangerous on the attack when John Obi Mikel is playing? Its because he is too defensively minded. It might mean he makes more tackles and interceptions but it prevents Chelsea from getting forward on the break.

My ideal defensive midfield partnership for next season is either Van Ginkel and Ramires or Van Ginkel and David Luiz. Luiz would be the slightly more attacking minded of the two with his flair, ability to pick out shattering passes and his overall vision.
