EFCC Resumes Grilling Of Saraki Today
« on: September 10, 2013, 12:57:08 PM »
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will today continue to interrogate Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki over alleged financial impropriety when he was the governor of Kwara State and director at the defunct Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria Ltd (SGBN).

The former governor, who is currently the Senator representing Kwara Central in the Senate, returned to EFCC headquarters yesterday after his first appearance upon his return from the lesser hajj (Umrah) in Saudi Arabia when he was later allowed to attend to his health matters.

The Senator was said to have been quizzed by a crack team of the commission for several hours during which he was said to have made useful statements. He was thereafter asked to return to the commission today for further questioning.

There have been insinuations that his ongoing interrogation by the anti-graft agency is a politically-motivated witch-hunt since the alleged crimes were committed long time ago.

But the EFCC’s head of media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, told LEADERSHIP that the allegation of witch-hunt was baseless, saying that nobody is above the law. According to him, the commission is at liberty to invite anybody for questioning at any time.

On why the interrogation now when the alleged crimes were allegedly committed some years ago, Uwujaren explained that a thorough investigation can take a long time before arriving at a concrete evidence depending on the nature of the crime.
