Ododo proposes 32-year plan ‘to ensure sustainable development’ in Kogi

Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi state, has proposed a 32-year
development plan aimed at ensuring the continuity of key infrastructure and
human capital projects in the state.

The proposed bill, outlined on Thursday by Ismaila Isah, his
special adviser on media, focuses on enhancing the quality of life for
residents in both urban and rural areas.

Isah said the bill would also support new initiatives in
sectors like solid minerals development, law, justice, and public service
reforms.

“This has to be sustained to prevent project abandonment and
deviation from the strategic vision to position Kogi state as an investment destination,”
he said,

“As part of our efforts to build a new and prosperous Kogi
State, we have developed a 32-year state development plan with the theme
‘Shared Hope and Prosperity.’”

The first phase of the development plan, set to run from
2024 to 2033, will focus on investment in critical infrastructure, human
capital development, and economic diversification.

Phases two and three, scheduled for 2034-2043 and 2044-2056,
will emphasise accelerating economic growth, improving governance, and
advancing environmental sustainability.

“The document is a comprehensive roadmap designed to
transform Kogi State into a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable economy,” he
added.

“The state development plan is anchored on prosperity,
building resilience and providing direction for sustainable development through
exceptional innovation, wealth creation, healthcare and human capital
development established on the foundation of peace and exemplary governance.”

On Tuesday, Ododo presented the 2025 proposed budget
estimates of N584.4 billion to the state house of assembly.

Of this amount, N302.8 billion, representing 52 percent, is
allocated for capital expenditure, while N279.5 billion, representing 48
percent, will go towards recurrent costs.
