No explosion in Jigawa – Police

The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed that no explosion, fire outbreak, or fuel scooping occurred following the crash of a petrol tanker loaded with 60,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Ringim Local Government Area on Thursday, May 1, 2025.This was made known in a press release signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam on Thursday.He explained that the incident involved a Howa tanker trailer with registration number Kano 549 BNK, driven by a 50-year-old man, Muhammad Ali of Yankatsari village in Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano State.According to the statement, the tanker was heading to Gujungu town in Taura LGA from Lagos when the driver, while trying to maneuver through a local traffic diversion to avoid an oncoming trailer, lost control of the vehicle near Zangon Kanya village in Ringim LGA.“As a result of which, the vehicle fell off the road. Subsequently, the fuel started spilling on the road,” the statement read.SP Shiisu noted that the Divisional Police Officer of Ringim led a team of officers to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call.He added that the Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, and other relevant agencies were also alerted and responded swiftly.“The driver sustained injuries and was rushed to Ringim General Hospital for treatment,” the statement confirmed.To prevent a disaster, police officers cordoned off the scene to stop villagers and passersby from scooping the fuel. SP Shiisu added that traffic was being diverted far away from the site to prevent any secondary accidents.“So far, no explosion or fire outbreak was recorded,” he stated, assuring the public that the situation was under control.
