House of Reps Police Invasion: IGP shuns Reps Summon

THE Inspector General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, on Friday, shunned the invitation of the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs over the invasion of the National Assembly by armed policemen.

Although the police boss sent Deputy Inspector General, Operations, Mr Sotonye Wakama, to represent him, the committee rejected his representation.

The House had, on Thursday, summoned Abba over the invasion of the National Assembly by policemen in which process teargas canisters were thrown at the Speaker, Honurable Aminu Tambuwal.

During the committee’s sitting, the chairman of the committee, Honourable Usman Kumo, read the letter from the IGP presented to him by the DIG which read: “Re: Letter of Invitation to the House Committee on Police Affairs with reference number CB:3380/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL8/806.

“Your letter No. NASS/7HR/CT.71/VOLIII/221, dated 20th November, 2014 on the above subject matter refers. Due to exigency of duty, the Inspector General of Police will not be able to appear before the House.

“Meanwhile, he has directed the Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations to represent him.”
