"There is no Ballot Box on Twitter, Facebook" - Gov Uba Sani Taunts El-Rufai
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has downplayed the influence of social media in securing electoral victories, taking a veiled jab at his predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, during an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna on August 18, 2025. Celebrating the APC’s success in recent by-elections, Sani emphasized grassroots mobilization over online propaganda, stating, “There is no ballot box on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Elections are won at the grassroots, not on social media.”Sani contrasted the APC’s strategy of political engagement and inclusivity with the opposition’s reliance on “propaganda battles,” crediting the party’s focus on governance for resonating with voters. “They lost because the people know who is working for them. We won’t waste time on social media noise-making,” he declared, earning applause from party loyalists. He hailed the APC’s by-election wins as historic, noting that communities that had not supported the party since 1999 voted for it due to its inclusive approach. “We pledged to defend everyone, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or party affiliation—and we kept it,” Sani said. The governor urged APC executives to stay committed to the party’s manifesto, warning that sustained connection with the people is critical for success in the 2027 elections. APC State Chairman, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (rtd.), echoed Sani’s call for unity, stressing collective responsibility over individual ambitions. “No aspiration is too big to sacrifice for the unity, peace, and progress of our party. Together, we can restore public confidence and return APC to winning ways,” Jekada said.
