Lagos State Launches New Registration Drive to Support Poor, Vulnerable Households
The Lagos State Government has rolled out a fresh registration initiative to identify and support poor and vulnerable households omitted from previous social welfare databases. Launched on August 15, 2025, at the Ajibola Community Development Area (CDA) in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Kosofe Local Government, the program aims to strengthen social protection and enhance welfare delivery across the state.Coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget under Commissioner Ope George, the initiative seeks to ensure that no eligible household is left behind. At the launch event, Mrs. Oluwakemi Garbadeen-Adedeji, Director of the Social Protection Coordinating Department, represented Permanent Secretary Mrs. Olayinka Ojo and emphasized the government’s commitment to reaching those most in need. “This registration is a pivotal step toward providing targeted support to poor and vulnerable households who were not captured in earlier exercises,” she stated. The initiative aligns with the ongoing integration of the Lagos State Single Social Register (LASSR) with the National Identification Number (NIN), a process that began on April 9 across all 57 local government areas and LCDAs in Lagos. The LASSR, a subset of the National Social Register, serves as a comprehensive database to identify eligible beneficiaries and streamline the delivery of social interventions, ensuring equitable and efficient distribution of government aid.Alhaja Arikawe Adewale, Chairman of Ajibola CDA, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s focus on social protection programs. Speaking on behalf of the community, he described the initiative as a testament to the “dividends of democracy” and noted the significant turnout of residents eager to register. Adewale urged officials to convey the community’s gratitude to the governor for his welfare-focused policies. The registration drive is designed to update the LASSR, ensuring all eligible households are included in the state’s social protection programs. By capturing accurate data, the government aims to enhance the effectiveness of its interventions, providing critical support to those facing economic hardship. The Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget has called on residents to participate in the exercise, emphasizing its importance in building a more inclusive welfare system. As the registration continues across Lagos, officials are optimistic that the updated database will pave the way for more impactful and equitable social support initiatives.Source: Adapted from provided information
