It’s not often a player makes his debut in the Old Firm derby, but that could be the case for Aaron Ramsey.

talkSPORT understands the Welshman is on his way to Rangers on loan for the rest of the season with his current club, Juventus, willing to cover the majority of his wages.

Ramsey hasn’t been able to impress in Serie A since signing a contract worth a reported £400,000-a-week in the summer of 2019.

A series of injuries prevented the former Arsenal midfielder from showing the form he displayed at the Emirates Stadium, which led to the club allowing offers for him.

With Juve paying the majority of his salary, Rangers look to have secured themselves a bargain and a timely one too, with the biggest fixture in Scotland just a few days away.

Rangers will travel to Celtic Park on February 2, which will also be a huge clash in the context of the Scottish Premiership title race as just two points separate the two sides.

Providing the deal is completed before 11pm, Rangers will be allowed to register the Welshman, meaning that he will be eligible to face Celtic.

Should he feature, Ramsey will complete the British treble having also played in the south Wales derby for Cardiff City, and the north London derby for Arsenal.

It will also be the fourth derby he will have played in his career, having featured in the fierce rivalry between Juve and Torino in the Turin derby three times.

Undoubtedly though, his best derby appearances came against Tottenham having made 14 appearances in his 11-year stay at Arsenal, scoring three goals and contributing to two assists.

As well as enjoying a goal against the fierce rivals, Ramsey couldn’t help himself on social media when he poked fun at Spurs’ Eric Dier.

In a heated contest in 2018/19, Dier lit the fuse by shushing Arsenal fans after heading his side back on terms.

After an altercation on the sidelines in which the Spurs star told Ramsey to ‘sit back down’, the Welshman, coming on as a second half substitute, reacted superbly.

The Cardiff academy product produced an assist for Alexandre Lacazette and played a big part in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal as Arsenal won the match 4-2.

Following the game, Ramsey took to Instagram and shared a picture of him on the pitch along with the caption “Sit down he said!”, referencing Dier’s comment and he also added a winking emoji heart to the post.

Ramsey posted this on his Instagram afterwards
