Aaron Ramsey has sealed his loan move to Rangers – with Ally McCoist hailing it as a huge signing for Scottish footnall.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri made it clear that Ramsey’s time in Italy was up and he was free to secure a move this January.

And the 31-year-old former Arsenal star has opted for a switch to the Scottish champions despite interest from the Premier League and elsewhere.

Juventus are covering the majority of Ramsey’s eye-watering £400,000-per-week contract for the initial loan phase, while there is an option to buy in the summer.

The 31-year-old midfielder joined the Italian giants in 2019 as a free agent after leaving Arsenal, but has had a difficult time in Turin.

The Welshman occasionally impressed under previous manager Andrea Pirlo, but has failed to nail down a starting berth, falling well short of what was expected of such a highly paid player.

Now he has opted to try and reignite his career in Scotland with Rangers and could well make his debut against arch-rivals Celtic on Wednesday.

“I am really pleased to be joining a club like Rangers, where there is so much to look forward to between now and May,” he told the club’s website.

“I had a number of offers on the table, but none matched the magnitude of this club, with European football and the chance to play in front of 50,000 fans every other week.

“I have had some fantastic conversations with the manager and Ross Wilson, and I’m really looking forward to working with both of them, and to meeting the supporters.”

The former Gunner will be hoping to make a return to regular football ahead of Wales’ crucial 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs in March.

Rangers regard the deal for the goalscoring midfielder as a major coup given he had plenty of interest from the Premier League.

It has certainly got the seal of approval from Gers legend McCoist, who likened the move to Paul Gascoigne’s 1995 switch, with the England icon going on to light up Ibrox.

“I’m absolutely ecstatic at the news Aaron Ramsey has signed for Rangers,” he told talkSPORT.

“I am really excited. It is just what Rangers fans needed, what the team needed – a boost in the middle of the park.

“I’m trying to thinnk back to when Rangers made a signing like this and I’m going back to Gascoigne and people like that – this is how big I think this signing could be.

“I know he has not been playing, a little bit out of favour at Juventus, but what a footballer Aaron Ramsey is. It is a brilliant signing for Rangers and Scottish football.

“An on-form Aaron Ramsey in the middle of the park is as good as anything anywhere in Scotish football.”
