Adama Traore looks set to be heading for Tottenham during the January transfer window and Antonio Conte ‘must see something’ in him despite worrying traits, according to Tony Cascarino.

Traore is edging closer to leaving Wolves and joining long-time admirers Spurs, and there is a willingness to make the deal happen even though both sides are currently far apart in their valuation.

Everyone knows that the winger has explosive pace can terrorise any defence in the Premier League.

Where he has come in for criticism is his goal contributions with just one goal and no assists in 20 total Premier League appearances this season.

His end product can certainly be better, but Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is keen to sign him and may even deploy him as a wing-back.

While his stats may not tally up to the talent the 25-year-old undoubtedly has, there is plenty of room for improvement.

Former Chelsea striker Cascarino believes Conte must feel he can be the person to bring the best out of Traore.

“When he’s at his explosive best, he’s unbelievable. If you’re watching him and you are thinking ‘this guy is so quick, this guy is devastating’,” Cascarino told Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“His numbers are terrible, which is always concerning. He’s got one [goal] this season and you’re thinking how has he only got one goal so far? I know he had one chalked off yesterday.

“Three the season before that in all competitions and six the season before that. He’s actually gone backwards in the last few years.

“Antonio Conte must see something that will get his numbers to be far better.”
