Arsenal could become the ‘laughing stock of the Premier League’ if they do not win their next set of matches after the international break.

Pressure is extremely high on manager Mikel Arteta following the Gunners’ worst start in their 128-year league history having not won or even scored in their first two matches of the season.

Arsenal started the campaign with an embarrassing result and performance against Brentford which was branded ‘weak and pathetic’ by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

It didn’t get any better in their second game of the season as they were easily turned over by Chelsea and their new ‘dominant’ £97.5 million striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Spaniard is now in a race to save his job and according to reports, he has five matches which will take him up to the second international break in October to ensure he remains in the Arsenal dugout.

From now until then, his side facing a daunting trip to the Premier League champions Manchester City which is then followed by games against Norwich City, Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor says that Arsenal “would become the laughing stock of the Premier League.”

“I think the Arsenal board would be fair with him. They’ll look at the Brentford [game] and say bad performance.

“Chelsea not great performance, but they did show a bit of fight in the second half, they could have lost five-six nil but they kept the score down to 2-0.

“They’ll see Man City, they’ll want to see the team playing for Arsenal playing for the manager in that game.

“Then after that it’s Norwich, Burnley, Spurs and Brighton. They’ll look at them four games and think, okay then we have to be winning the Norwich game, we have to beating Burnley, they’ll take a draw against Spurs maybe a draw against Brighton.

“They got to show in that Norwich game they’ve got to win it, that’s a must win. For me if they don’t win that game, I would get rid of him there.

“If Norwich come and turn you over then it’s like, Arsenal are the laughing stock of the Premier League.”

Cloudy skies are certainly looming over the Emirates and it could get even darker over the next few weeks.

That being said things off the pitch appear to be sunny with the work the club has done in the transfer market.

Incomings have been coming in thick and fast with Arteta and sporting director Edu working tirelessly to bring in five new players.

Outgoings have also been significant with David Luiz leaving at the end of last season, Lucas Torreira close to joining Fiorentina and Willian nearing a move back to Brazil to club side Corinthians.

Whilst news off the pitch has been positive, things on the pitch need to follow suit quickly as Arteta is in a race against time to save his job.
