Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother has asked him to return to Sporting Lisbon before he finishes his career – and the Portuguese didn’t rule it out.

Dolores Aveiro, who cried tears of joy when her son scored on his return to Manchester United, has revealed that she has told Cristiano to rejoin his boyhood club before she dies.

And, despite being 36 years old, you’d imagine that Ronaldo has plenty of years left in his tank to do so.

Dolores told the ADN de Leao podcast: “Ronaldo has to come back (to Sporting), he’d be here for me.

“He likes watching Sporting’s games. I’ve already told him: ‘Son, before I die I want to see you return to Sporting’. ‘Let’s see…’, he said.”

Ronaldo, who rejoined United after 12 years away from the club this summer, could make a return to another one of his former clubs.

He played 25 games for Sporting before joining the Red Devils for his first spell in 2003 and came through the Portuguese side’s academy.

But Dolores had a warning for one of Sporting’s current players – their no.7 Bruno Tabata.

She joked: “Today, no.7 belongs to Tabata…for now. When Ronaldo comes, it will be his!

“Ronaldo, coming here, will make up for it with the sales of shirts. In Manchester it was crazy.”

Dolores also revealed that her son gave her reassurances that he would not be joining Manchester City before his United move.

Pep Guardiola’s side were reportedly interested in the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and a move to the Premier League champions looked likely.

However, the forward ended up making the switch from Juventus back to the club where he made his name.

Dolores added: “On the TV there was talk of Man City, but he said to me: ‘Mum, don’t worry about what they’re saying, because I’m going to Manchester (United)’.”
