Who needs Harry Kane or Erling Haaland when you’ve got Edinson Cavani?

There was a lot of scepticism around when Manchester United signed a 33-year-old striker, who was without a club after seeing out his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

But those doubters have been well and truly silenced as the Uruguayan, now 34, has established himself well at Old Trafford with 14 goals so far this season.

He’s been at his most deadly in United colours during their Europa League triumph over Roma, scoring FOUR goals over both legs.

In fact, Cavani boasts hugely impressive stats during the semi-final triumph over the Serie A side.

Goals: 4

Assists: 2

Penalties won: 1

Goal involvements: 7 out of 8 goals for Man United

Cavani signed a one-year contract on deadline day in October, meaning he’s set to leave at the end of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reiterated his desire for Cavani to sign a new deal after the match, while Owen Hargreaves is convinced Man United should stick with their current no.7.

“Every ex-man United player or fan wants Harry Kane or [Erling] Haaland but the money that will cost now in the climate is just not realistic,” Hargreaves told BT Sport, per Daily Mail.

“I think Cavani has done a wonderful job. Get him to sign a new deal and obviously there are no transfer payments there. Obviously he’s on big wages. I think they need a right winger.”

Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have also been hugely impressed by Cavani, however, the Man United legends are adamant Kane or Haaland must be signed if there’s an opportunity to do so.

“I worry about what you do if you let Kane and Haaland go somewhere else,” Ferdinand said. “You look at the teams that do well at the moment. It’s the squads with the depth. Look at Bayern Munich last season, City this season.”

Meanwhile, Scholes added: “United are a club that need to sign a proper centre forward for the next five years. I’m talking a Kane or Haaland.

Both Haaland and Kane have been linked with Man United, as well as their rivals Manchester City

“Cavani will slow down, fitness-wise, injury-wise might not be great. He’s not played loads of games this season, but he has scored goals when he has played.

“Then you are talking about the other players… Can any of the other players step up to be a centre forward? I really can’t see it. When you talk about centre forwards, I see Kane and Haaland.

“[Anthony] Martial, [Mason] Greenwood and [Marcus] Rashford I just don’t see them as centre forward. They are wide players.”
