Jose Mourinho has been accused of failing to get the best out of Mohamed Salah, despite the forward ‘training like Lionel Messi’ while at Chelsea.

Long before the Egyptian became the darling of the Kop, Salah was plying his trade in west London and trying to make his mark on the Premier League.

However, despite a run of games in the 2013/14 season under Mourinho, Salah was allowed to join Fiorentina in February 2015 and his rise to prominence has been astronomical ever since.

After then moving to Roma, Salah joined Liverpool and has continued to break records, gain trophies and helped the Reds win the Champions League and Premier League.

Yet former teammate Filipe Luis believes it could have been all so different had the Chelsea board decided to not shift the former FC Basel starlet on so quickly.

The Atletico Madrid defender said in an interview with the Guardian: “It might look like we fell out but I admire him.

“I won the league with him. But he didn’t get the best out of me, just as he didn’t with Salah.

“When he went Fiorentina, I said: ‘Why are you going, Momo? This is Chelsea.’ And he said: ‘I need to play.’ I thought: ‘This kid’s good.’

“He never went for money or to win more; he went to show he could play. In training he was like Messi. Really, like Messi. Ask anyone.”

Luis arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2014 having won LaLiga and gone to the Champions League final with Atleti under the leadership of the charismatic Diego Simeone.

The Brazil international spent just 12 months at the club before returning to Spain after making a mere 26 appearances.
