Jamie O’Hara has tipped Tottenham to challenge for the Premier League title this season after their stunning opening day victory over Southampton.

But Gabby Agbonlahor is so confident Spurs won’t even finish above north London rivals Arsenal, that he’s vowed to pull on a Leeds United shirt if they do – and regular talkSPORT listeners will understand the gravity of that bet.

Antonio Conte’s side put Saints to the sword in a rip-roaring performance at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

It certainly underlined Tottenham’s top four credentials, as Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Dejan Kulusevski and an own goal gave the hosts a big statement win to kick off their season in style.

Former Spurs star O’Hara, though, went one further after the win put his old club top of the league.

Whether his comments were serious or tongue in cheek, we’ll let you decide…

“It was a fantastic performance,” he said on talkSPORT’s new Gameday Phone-In show. “It was a bit sloppy at the start, but what a turnaround, I knew we’d brush them aside.

“It’s all to play for, I think we really can… can we challenge for the title this season?

“Listen, Liverpool were sloppy, and you look at Spurs – I believe! I really do believe!

“I think we can do something special , we didn’t even play any of the new signings.

“Sessegnon was excellent, Kulusevski was brilliant, we look fit, we look strong, Harry Kane looks like he’s 25 years of age.

“I’m so excited. Antonio Conte is a winning manager, he has won the league, he’s done it.

“We did the double over Man City last season, we drew both games against Liverpool… last season we got beat by Southampton, these are the games that we lost, but now we look like we ‘re going out to win games week in week out.

“I really think we can challenge.”

However, Agbonlahor isn’t convinced, and he made quite the bet with his talkSPORT co-host to prove how confident he is that Tottenham lifting the title come the end of the season will not happen.

Gabby: “After watching Arsenal last night [2-0 win over Crystal Palace] they will finish above Spurs, for me.”

Jamie: “You’re talking absolute nonsense! Spurs will finish above Arsenal, 100 per cent.”

Agbonlahor has had plenty of run-ins with Leeds fans and has vowed to wear a Whites shirt if Spurs finish above Arsenal this season

Gabby: “I’ll have that bet with you. If Spurs finish above Arsenal I will wear a Leeds United shirt… for five shows. If Arsenal finish above Spurs, you have to wear an Arsenal shirt.”

Jamie: “I’m happy to take that bet. Look, Arsenal looked very good, in the first-half they looked like Barcelona and Gabriel Jesus was a big threat. But I guarantee you right now we’re going to finish above Arsenal.”

The end of the season could be very, very interesting.
