Football just hits differently sometimes.

And England winning the Women’s Euro 2022 is certainly one of those moments, with talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham and Lianne Sanderson in tears after the match.

The Wembley clash was a rollercoaster of emotions as England ran out 2-1 winners after extra-time, Chloe Kelly poking home the winner in the 110th minute.

It’s the first major piece of silverware the England Women’s team has won and brings a 56-year hoodoo to an end with England last tasting success at the men’s World Cup in 1966.

An emotional Adrian Durham, who by the way promised to get a tattoo commemorating the win, said moments after the final whistle: “Listen to that, it’s come home! Can you believe it? The emotion, absolutely sensational.

“They deserve it, every single one of them. All those predecessors, all those who worked so hard for change, all those who helped the allies, the friends and relatives, they all deserve it.

“If anybody at the FA was thinking of getting rid of this song [Three Lions] just listen to this…

“Fantastic from the Lionesses and fantastic from Chloe Kelly to poke home the winner and the game management at the end – never have I been happier to see the ball by a corner flag!

The Lionesses were brilliant throughout the tournament and are deserving winners

“Lianne Sanderson, I can’t stop hugging you, I’m actually in tears.

“The whole tournament has been emotional, it’s been so emotional for so many reasons during this tournament with England, it’s something else.

“At the final whistle I went and I just couldn’t help myself. This is something else, it’s so special.

“This is what it feels like for England to win a major trophy. I never thought in my life I’d see it happen and for the Lionesses to end 56 years of hurt at Wembley Stadium as well, it couldn’t be more appropriate!”

Who says football is just a game?

Sanderson added: “I’m trying to compose myself. This is why you play football, this is why girls at the age of five play football. It’s brilliant, it really is.”

“This feeling is unbelievable, I feel like I’ve played in the game. I’m sitting here in tears.”

You’re not the only ones.
