Benzema cited wanting to live in a Muslim country as a reason for making the move but the staggering contract he was offered must’ve played a part too.

The current Ballon d’Or holder’s new deal involves some unbelievable numbers and talkSPORT.com takes a deeper look…

Benzema’s Al Ittihad contract

Benzema is understood to have signed a three-year deal at Al Ittihad, which is set to see him earn almost £200million per season.

This can be broken down into some incredible stats, with the Frenchman likely to earn around £6 per second in Saudi Arabia.

Benzema’s earnings in Saudi Arabia

  • €200,000,000 (£171,877,300) per year
  • €16,666,666 (£14,323,107) per month
  • €4,166,666 (£3,580,776) per week
  • €595,238 (£511, 539) per day
  • €24,801 (£21,313) per hour
  • €413 (£355) per minute
  • €6.88 (£5.91) per second

Calculations were done on social media following the announcement, and it was worked out that Benzema will be collecting over £350 per minute.

And this equates to over £20,000 an hour and over £500,000 a day!

His contract is extremely similar to Ronaldo’s, with both players becoming the faces of the Saudi Pro League.

They could also soon be joined by Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante who is set to also sign for Al-Ittihad.

Speaking after his arrival, Benzema said: “I’ll never forget Real Madrid because it’s impossible.

“It’s difficult to talk. There are so many emotions. I wanted to thank Real Madrid and my teammates. It’s been a good journey in my life.

“I was lucky enough to fulfil my childhood dream thanks to the president, who a long time ago, when I was just 21 years old, went to my house, with my parents.”

He continued: “I have been fortunate to achieve amazing things in my career and achieve everything I can in Spain and Europe.

“It now feels the time is right for a new challenge and project.

“I am looking forward to joining my new teammates and, together with them, help take this amazing club and the game in Saudi Arabia to new levels.”
