Chelsea fans shouldn’t read too much into their Champions League win over Atletico Madrid, insists Darren Bent.
It’s still all to play for in the last-16 tie with Olivier Giroud’s goal all that separates the two sides going into the second leg.
The west London side have made good strides under Tuchel, putting themselves back in the race for the top four, while also safely making it to the last eight of the FA Cup.
Tuchel is yet to taste defeat as Chelsea manager with his unbeaten record currently standing at eight matches.
However, Bent has urged Chelsea fans to not get carried too away by their new manager, insisting they didn’t have to do a lot to beat the LaLiga leaders.
Bent also claimed that Diego Simeone’s side would have been beaten by four or five goals had they come up against Premier League leaders Manchester City, who cruised past Borussia Monchengladnach comfortably on Wednesday night.
“I don’t think you can get too carried away because I thought Atletico were poor,” Bent said on Drivetime.
“Out of possession they went to a 6-3-1, please tell me how you’re ever going to score any amount of goals while playing that.
“Yes they’ve got Luis Suarez up front, second highest scorer in LaLiga this season, but his legs have gone a bit. It’s not the same Suarez at Barcelona and Liverpool who runs all over the place.
“I don’t think they had an awful lot to do to beat Atletico. Say Manchester City had played Atletico, they’d have beaten them by four or five because Atletico didn’t offer anything.
“I think for Thomas Tuchel all he can do is beat who’s in front of him. He’s done quite well, I don’t think he’s set the world alight but they are picking up positive results.”
