Manchester United’s season could be about to reach a new low if they succumb to defeat at home to Leicester.

The Red Devils are enduring a poor season and must buck a recent trend against the Foxes to ensure they remain in contention for a Champions League spot.

United have been knocked out of every competition this term and currently sit 20 points off the top of the table, languishing down in sixth.

So a top-four place is all they have to play for, but even that is far from certain.

Ralf Rangnick’s team are four points behind Arsenal, who occupy the last Champions League qualification spot, and crucially have a game in hand over the Old Trafford club.

And that gap could increase if the Gunners overcome Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night, if United fail to beat Brendan Rodgers’ men.

The game, live on talkSPORT this Saturday, won’t be easy for the 20-time league champions who have found positive results hard to come by in recent meetings.

The current FA Cup holders are enjoying a purple patch against the Red Devils, and talkSPORT.com takes a look at what another win would mean…

The reverse fixture in October saw a thriller at the King Power Stadium where Man United led, but came away empty-handed.

Goals from Youri Tielemans, Caglar Soyüncu, Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka gave Rodgers’ side a 4-2 triumph.

Victory over the Red Devils is becoming the norm for the Foxes.

The encounter before that saw them win 2-1 at Old Trafford towards the end of the 2020/21 season, and a few months prior, they won 3-1 at home on the way to winning the FA Cup.

With three wins on the bounce in all competitions, and unbeaten in four in total, its fair to say Leicester have Man United’s number.

And should they extend that winning run, it will be the first time Man United lose four in a row against them in their history.

Not only could they set that unwanted record, it would also be the first time since the 1973/74 season that Leicester have claimed a league ‘double’ over United.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Man United supporters, as they do boast one player who lives for the big occasions.

Ronaldo, a man scores goals and breaks records for fun, could be set for another this weekend.

At 37-years-old, he is in the twilight of his career, but is still proving to be as lethal as ever in front of goal.

He’s on 12 so far in 24 league games, and should he net a hat-trick against the Foxes, he would officially record the most prolific campaign by any player in top-flight history after their 36th birthday.

The current feat belongs to Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola, whose most lethal season at Stamford Bridge was his last: a 14-goal return at the age of 36 in the 2002/03 Premier League season.

Even though his name is still attributed to that record, it does look to be a matter of time before Ronaldo’s name is on it.

And Man United fans will hope it happens on Saturday as hope to keep up the pressure on Arsenal for the race to the Champions League.
