Manchester United have not won the Premier League title for nine years and do not look like ending that barren run any time soon.

Sir Alex Ferguson was still the manager then and several others have tried and failed to reach those dizzy heights they enjoyed for decades under their famous manager.

Ferguson won 13 Premier League titles, but Man United haven’t won it since he left in 2013

Ralf Rangnick is in interim charge until the end of the season and they are in a battle just to return to the top four.

They are 19 points behind rivals Man City and do not look like closing the gap.

More than a billion has been spent on transfers over the last nine years, but that has not got them any closer to the title.

So what is needed for Man United to rival City and Liverpool for the Premier League?

Many have pointed to the club’s midfield with Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic rotated in the heart of the pitch.

They have come in for criticism for not being good enough and an area pundits have called for them to improve.

talkSPORT’s Dean Ashton even claimed that some Championship sides have better midfields than the Red Devils.

Former United star Paul Parker believes that if his old club signed both Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, it would turn them into a Premier League winning outfit.

Parker, speaking to kelbet.nl, said: “If you bring in Declan Rice, within 12 months, he’s your captain, without a shadow of a doubt.

“If you bring in those two (Rice and Jude Bellingham) together, then you have a midfield of Premier League winning types.”

“When I watch him (Jude Bellingham) play, I really like that. I like that fact that he doesn’t want to be type-casted to one position. He doesn’t want to be what all the young supporters call a ‘CDM’ as such.

“He wants to be called a midfield player, which I love. Because when you are a midfield player, that means you want to be all over the park. You are even happy to go into your own box, and more importantly getting near the opponents box and try to make and score goals. That’s what he can do. Doesn’t want his game limited.”

“When you watch him play for Dortmund, his game is not limited.”

Signing both Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham will not come cheap, with the pair likely to cost north of £100million each.

The pair are integral to their clubs, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund, and have been stars for England.

They would be popular choices among the club’s fanbase, but they may be cautious about joining, especially if United fail to finish in the Champions League places.

Here is how Man United could look if they signed both Rice and Bellingham.
