Marcus Rashford has revealed Prime Minister Boris Johnson is committed to addressing the issues of food parcels after images of the ‘unacceptable’ hampers were shared on social media.

The Manchester United star was unhappy with the food parcels families appear to have received during the latest lockdown, as they appeared to not be worth the £30 offered by the government.

With schools closed once again, families are entitled to £30 worth of food vouchers every ten days, although some have been sent food bundles instead.

One mother priced up what she claimed to receive from the government and the contents amounted to £5.22 instead of £30.

Responding to one post earlier this week, Rashford tweeted: “Where is this being rolled out?

“If families are entitled to £30 worth of food, why is there delivery only equating to just over £5?! 1 child or 3, this what they are receiving? Unacceptable. Children deserve better than this.”

Health secretary Matt Hancock thanked Rashford for alerting the government to this and the 23-year-old has since revealed he had a ‘good conversation’ with the PM to conduct a full review of the hampers being sent.

Rashford tweeted: “Just had a good conversation with the Prime Minister. He has assured me that he is committed to correcting the issue with the food hampers and that a full review of the supply chain is taking place.

“He agrees that images of hampers being shared on Twitter are unacceptable.”

Rashford was awarded an MBE in 2020 for his campaign to get free school meals for hungry kids during holidays and while schools are closed due to COVID-19.
