Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko does not have any animosity towards Ukraine teammate Mykhailo Mudryk for joining Chelsea.

The 22-year-old sealed a move to the Blues in the January transfer window, despite looking set to join the Gunners.

Mudryk joined in a deal worth £88million, but has so far had a slow start to life at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were able to sneak in and complete a deal for the Arsenal target, and Zinchenko has now revealed what he told him once the transfer was sealed.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “I told him: “It’s gone already, it doesn’t matter what you wanted, what the other guys wanted.

“Now you’re a Chelsea player, you signed a long-term contract and you have only one option, only one way, direct and forward.

“Unfortunately he didn’t become an Arsenal player – as I wanted personally! – but it’s life.”

With Arsenal unable to land Mudryk, they instead signed Leandro Trossard, who has proven to be a superb acquisition thus far.

He has scored once and assisted six times for the Gunners, a much better record than that of Mudryk.

The Chelsea man has picked up just one assist since he joined, although he hasn’t completed 90 minutes since November.

Despite now being rivals at the London giants, Zinchenko and Mudryk will team up for Ukraine’s Euro 2024 qualification campaign.

They face England at Wembley on Sunday, with the Three Lions heading into the clash off the back of their 2-1 win over Italy.

Mudryk has only made eight international with Zinchenko, who is four years his senior, sitting on 52 caps for his country.

The duo have played four times together for Ukraine, and could be set to cause England problems on the left this weekend.
