Raul Jimenez scored his first Wolves goal since returning from a fractured skull in a pre-season draw against Stoke on Saturday.

The Mexico striker has made a full recovery from the scary injury, which happened during a Premier League match with Arsenal last November.

Jimenez was stretchered off and rushed to hospital for surgery after clashing heads with David Luiz at the Emirates.

And after a lengthy lay-off, the 30-year-old has returned to first-team action during Wolves’ pre-season programme.

And the striker, who now wears protective head gear during games, netted his first goal in nine months for the club in a draw with Championship side Stoke City.

Nelson Semedo’s shot was parried by Stoke goalkeeper Joe Bursik and into the path of Jimenez, who slotted home from close-range to cancel out Danny Batth’s opener.

The goal – which was followed by a rousing rendition of his ‘Si Senor’ chant – will give Jimenez a huge confidence boost heading into Wolves’ 2021/22 Premier League season, which kicks off against Leicester on August 14.

As a precaution following his horror injury last year, the former Benfica talisman will wear a protective headguard for the remainder of his career.

Earlier this year, Jimenez revealed he could not remember suffering the scary injury and needed to be fed in bed by his girlfriend Daniela Basso.

Speaking to EstiloDF, he said: “It was a hard, complicated moment, you never want to experience that kind of thing.

“I think it was the most difficult thing for her because the game was in London, we are two hours away, she is watching from home.

“I don’t even remember the moment, I just remember waking up in the hospital after the operation.

“But it’s hard coming home and not being able to do many things, walking slowly, it’s difficult, but she was always here to support me, I had to have my breakfast in bed.”
