Tottenham Hotspur hope star man Harry Kane will only miss three weeks of action after injuring both his ankles against Liverpool.

The Spurs ace was crocked in first-half challenges with Thiago and Jordan Henderson and had to be substituted at half-time of their 3-1 loss in the Premier League.

Losing Kane for any amount of time will be a blow for Tottenham and manager Jose Mourinho but, according to reports, it is hoped he will return in three weeks.

The 27-year-old is still awaiting the results of scans and any damage to a bone or a ligament could still double his estimated recovery time.

England captain Kane is currently set to sit out at least six matches, including key clashes with Chelsea and Manchester City, while an extended absence could see him out of a mach with West Ham, and possible the north London derby with Arsenal in mid-March.

Manager Mourinho though, is hoping it is just a short absence of two to three weeks.

Kane’s admission he couldn’t carry on against Liverpool was a huge warning sign for Mourinho, who said after the game: “For Harry to leave a game when he wants to play with the team losing, for Harry to come out means it is not a nothing injury.”

But the Portuguese has insisted loan signing Gareth Bale will not be the man to replace him.

“I don’t think [Gareth] is a striker, I don’t think he likes to play as a striker,” the 58-year-old told football.london.

“It was something that we spoke when he joined us, he was very objective with me, by saying he doesn’t feel he is a left winger like he was before, he doesn’t feel like he is a No.10 like he was before, too.

“The position that he likes to play is the position where we are playing him every minute we give him, which is the right side of the attack. so when Gareth plays starting or coming from the bench, that’s his position in our game.”
