Tottenham have announced the signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon.

The Spanish wing-back joins the Premier League club on loan until the end of the season with an obligation to make the move permanent in the summer, which is expected to set them back £40million.

Porro’s arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium comes after a rollercoaster few days, where the deal looked on, then off, and then on again.

Porro was at one point set for a Spurs medical and even waved farewell to Sporting supporters following their Portuguese Cup final defeat to Porto on Saturday.

But the deal went south over Tottenham’s plan to pay the transfer fee in instalments, which led to Sporting pulling out.

However, manager Antonio Conte has got the man to strengthen a key position in his system.

Wing-back was an area of need for Conte, and Porro is one of Europe’s top talents in the specialist position, having starred in the Primeira Liga, Champions League, and for Spain.

On paper, the Spaniard looks a perfect match for the Italian’s team.

Porro has created three times as many chances in the league the season than Tottenham’s current options in that role, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty… COMBINED.

Porro is Tottenham’s second January signing, having already welcomed the arrival of Dutch forward Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal.

The former Bournemouth ace even scored on his debut against Preston in the FA Cup, and Conte will be hoping Porro can hit the ground running, too, as Spurs aim for a top-four finish.

With Porro arriving, Spurs said goodbye to Matt Doherty, who ended up joining Atletico Madrid on a permanent transfer. Meanwhile, Djed Spence has joined French club Rennes on loan until the end of the season.
