David Villa joined Atletico Madrid from Barcelona this summer for the ridiculous price of €5.1million and showed his former employees just what they were missing in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

Atletico took the lead in the 12th minute and did so with a goal of sublime quality; Villa released Arda Turan down the left after some nice interchange play.

The Turkish playmaker, recently linked with Arsenal and Liverpool, returned the favour with a neat chipped cutback and Villa obliged by hitting a beautiful volley across goal into the far corner. It was a great goal and things did not look good for Barcelona when Lionel Messi was withdrawn at half time with a thigh injury.

However, the new superstar in town is Neymar and he saved the day for the Catalans with the crucial equaliser, though it did not come from in a way you would expect from the Brazil international.

Dani Alves lofted a cross to the back post with 24 minutes left in the match and Neymar arrived just in time to head the ball down and into the net for his first competitive goal since his £50million move from Santos.
